Dead but Alive…..
It was just like a normal day on the 26th
day of December when I started to feel a little bit weak, I ignored the symptoms
and decided to continue with my day-to-day activities. By the next day, I was
totally unconscious and then was rushed to a General Hospital nearby at the
early hours of the day. After two days of treatment which I was on oxygen due
to breathing issues and also on Catheter because I was unable to make urine
myself… I felt so useless at that time, on the long run, I was transferred to
Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) because I was told I was not
responding to treatment and also that they can’t handle me again… On arriving
at LUTH, was taken into the Accident and Emergency Ward where I was being
managed but it seems there is no hope.
It got to the height when I woke up one
morning and heard a nurse whisper “Happy New Year” I shook my head and said
silently; God! You brought me thus far not to make jest of me or to make me a
source of sadness for my mum, I must scale through! At a point, I was praying
silently that God, even if I won’t make it out alive, please comfort my mum and
all my loved ones. All my mind was that I wouldn’t survive because I knew I was
already gone…. Several persons (two to be precise) died while I was in the
hospital one beside me and the other a ward next to mine. I had lost all hope
and all I was waiting for was death.
However, as a warrior fighting with the Armor
of God, I survived and I won the battle by grace. It was nothing more than the
grace and love of God that gave me victory over this crisis. Now I can boldly
say, I am a conqueror and if I survived this battle then I will tell you SCD is
not a killer disease. Nothing, and I mean nothing, not even SCD nor any other
related disease can claim my life.
With Jesus I can and I will make it!
I am a SCD warrior and I will survive.
